Fascinating Underground Homes

Fascinating Underground Homes
We received a great response from our feature on Klima Hotel (Bella Vista), the semi-sumerged underground hote in Bozen, Italy, so we were pleased to come across 6 Fascinating Underground Homes on Inhabitat. Of course, you can’t book a stay in these places like you can a hotel, but they just might change your idea of a dream home.
Green enthusiast and British football star Gary Neville’s house-to-be is hidden under the ground, save for the petal-shaped openings that flood the interior with light. The one-story, nearly 8,000 sq ft structure was designed to keep energy consumption to a minimum.
Designed by the architects of SeArch and Christian Müller, this home in Vals,Switzerland is hidden on all sides save for one. By building the house underground, the architects were able to almost completely eliminate the need for heating or cooling in the winter and summer months.

The underground cottages surrounding Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater, will reside in the hills of the 5,000-acre Bear Run Nature Reserve that surrounds the architect’s most famous home.

Modern designs meets cave-dwelling with this eye-popping home nestled inside of a 15,000-square foot sandstone cave in Festus, Missouri. Built by Curt and Deborah Sleeper, the underground abode features smart examples of energy-efficientarchitecture like geothermal heating and passive design that keep the interior comfortable while completely eliminating the need for a furnace or air conditioning.

Peeking out from underneath bumpy layers of greenery, this Swiss estate looks more like something out of a fairy tale than real life. Designed by Vetsch Architektur, the structure was built using earth house construction, resulting in an insulating blanket that protects it from rain, low temperatures, wind and natural abrasion.

The 6 Most Complex Road In The World

1) Col de Turini, France

Situated more than 1 mile above sea level, Col de Turini is a mountain pass situated in south of France in the Alps. It’s also part of a 20 miles rally stage of the Monte Carlo Rally of WRC, which combines 34 challenging hairpins and long stretches where cars top 111 mph. It is one of the most exciting roads on Earth. The pass was featured in the very first episode of Top Gear series 10, when the presenters went in search of the greatest driving road in the world. At its highest point, Col de Turini is 1607m high. In the north, the Col de Turini starts with a dazzling series of hairpins. Finally, we end up riding in a gorge, with a wild river on the left, and a steep rock-wall on the right.

2) Stelvio Pass, Italy
 3) Leh–Manali Highway, India
4) The Puxi Viaduct, Shanghai
5) The Judge Harry Pregerson Interchange, LA
6) Gravelly Hill Interchange, Birmingham, UK

World's First Amphibious Lamborghini

I never thought I'd see the day when a Lamborghini is seen floating. But here we are, that day has come. This unique classically mid-engined Lamborghini Countach has been designed by Mike Ryan and it travels smoothly on both land and water. An amphibious Lamborghini, sounds neat. Of course, this baby is going to be quite slow in water, still it looks pretty novel. I doubt anyone will really use it in water anyway, but it's nice to have the option. Looking at the pictures, it totally reminds me of Bond movies or something. Imagine all the thrilling adventures you can have in this amphibious Lamborghini!

World Biggest Diamond Mine

World’s Biggest Diamond Mine is located at Mirna, Eastern Siberia, Russia. The mine is 525 meters (1,722 ft) deep and has a diameter of 1,200 m (3,900 ft).The mine was discovered on June 13, 1955 by Soviet geologists Yuri Khabardin, Ekaterina Elagina and Viktor Avdeenko during the large Amakinsky Expedition in Yakut ASSR. They found traces of volcanic rock kimberlite which are usually associated with diamonds. This finding was the first success in the search for kimberlite in Russia, after numerous failed expeditions of the 1940s and 1950s. For this discovery, in 1957 Khabardin was given the Lenin Prize, which was one of the highest awards in the Soviet Union.
The town is strictly off limits to outsiders without a special permit and the authorities regard any foreigners with considerable suspicion.
